Welcome to fall!

Over the last several months, your City Council has been working on a myriad of projects, some of them long-standing that will provide significant enhancements for our city into the future.  In Old Town Newhall, we are well underway with construction of a new 30,000 square foot library in Old Town Newhall.  The state-of-the-art library will serve as a focal point for our Old Town, and with its children’s library, teen resource area, dozens of public use computers and public meeting areas, it will be a wonderful amenity for our city.  If you would like to see the “real time” progress of the library, check out our “Library construction-cam” on the City’s website at: http://www.santaclaritalibrary.com/.

On behalf of our Chamber of Commerce and the City, I would like to encourage you to attend the 27^th Annual SCV Community Expo (also known as the Home and Business Expo) and Taste of Expo on September 16, 17 and 18 at the Santa Clarita Sports Complex, 20880 Centre Pointe Parkway, just off Golden Valley Road in Canyon Country.  Access is easy and central to the valley via the Cross-Valley Connector. Expo offers new and expanded parking adjacent to the event, along with complimentary shuttle service.

The Expo committee is pulling out all stops to attract the largest crowds ever: Free admission on Saturday and Sunday, free parking, complimentary shuttle service and expanded parking areas. In addition, College of the Canyons will host their fall job fair on site and Henry Mayo Newhall Memorial Hospital medical staff will administer free flu shots on Saturday for seniors and qualified caregivers. MESSAGE FROM THE CITY MANAGER KEN PULSKAMP

September 2011

Fall has arrived with all of the great City events you have come to know over the years.  Your City works hard to plan and implement events and programs that are family-friendly, informative and a great contributor to the amazing high quality of life we all enjoy. 

On Saturday, September 17, from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., the City will host its award-winning River Rally Cleanup & Environmental Expo.  The event is expected to draw large numbers of volunteers interested in helping remove trash and debris from the Santa Clara River.  The City will provide volunteers with snacks, water, and a small gift in appreciation for their service to the community.  This year, we will be cleaning near the Wiley Canyon area at theVia Princessa bridge.  River Rally is always a popular event for local scout troops, clubs, and other community service organizations.  More information is available through the City of Santa Clarita’s Environmental Services Division at 661-286-4098 or online at http://www.greensantaclarita.com/.

In an effort to help families, the City of Santa Clarita is proud to present its Teen Scene Unplugged on Wednesday, September 14, 2011 at the Golden Valley High School theatre. The City of Santa Clarita’s Blue Ribbon Task Force is pleased to present a unique, dramatic, and thought-provoking presentation, entitled: “Navigating the Teenage Years.”  A Resource Fair (6-7pm) will precede the presentation (7-9pm). Parents are encouraged to bring their teens along.
